Fosutekusu (aka Fostex) created the HP-A7 and the HP-A3 for people looking for a 32bit DACs. Packed into a small box, headphone amplifer included, provide a simple solution for those looking for the latest technology in a small packaging. Anybody carrying these outside of Japan?
The HP-A7 is the high end model, equipped with the Asahi Kasei AK4392 DAC Chip (something we don’t hear very often outside of Japan), and has a separate power supply for the L/R channel. Op-amps from Linear Technology are used for the headphone amplifier, with custom Nichicon capacitors. Maximum output is fairly high at 700mW at 32?. It comes with two optical inputs, a coaxial and a USB digital inputs. It also has an optical digital output. It also has analog inputs and outputs for bypassing the internal DAC or bypassing the internal amplifier, respectively. The two headphone outs are designed to accomodate headphone of different impedances. Power seems to come from a 15V wall-wart. The HP-A7 will sell for 78,750 yen (~ 860 USD).
