Picture Sunday: Ultimate Ears Pro Reference Remastered

The star of this week’s Picture Sunday is Ultimate Ears’s Pro Reference Remastered. Check out other recent Picture Posts Here, and Here.

This, bros and bro-ettes, is the Ultimate Ears’s Pro Reference Remastered custom in-ear. Thanks to e-Earphone’s great custom in-ear service, I got great fit. Like a glove. Like a remastered glove.

The sound from this earphone is as I expected: wide, flat, with low, high and mid details coming through on pretty much equal sound pressure. Add to that amazing decay speed and lack of high-end sibilance and you have, what in my estimation, is one of the least accented customs that sounds great for trance.

Its mids aren’t as airy between instruments as Noble Audio’s K10, nor as generally wide-sounding as Vision Ears’s V6 X Control. It is as unaccented as the latter’s neutral setting, but with a closer, more immediate stage.

I’ll be back with comparisons to my other favourite custom earphones in a proper review.

Back before he became the main photographer for bunches of audio magazines and stuff, Nathan was fiddling with pretty cool audio gear all day long at TouchMyApps. He loves Depeche Mode, trance, colonial hip-hop, and raisins. Sometimes, he gets to listening. Sometimes, he gets to shooting. Usually he's got a smile on his face. Always, he's got a whisky in his prehensile grip.
