Canjam Europe 2014: It’s Back!

Disclaimer: Headfonia is in no way related to the people organizing Canjam Europe. But as it is the only real headphone related show, we’re going and they deserve some media attention. We’re a media partner because such a huge event deserves media coverage. Everything for the readers 🙂

Time sure does fly. I can remember being there last year for the whole weekend and not even having enough time to check everything out. But on to this year’s event!

CanJam Europe 2014 – Europe’s leading show for headphones and accessories opens in September at a new location ! On Sept. 20th and 21st, Europe’s dedicated headphone show CanJam will open again. Consumers, professional users and trade visitors experience headphones, audio players, amplifiers and accessories of all sizes and prize categories at Congress Center West of Messe Essen. After the great success of the initial event, the organizers expect twice as many exhibitors for 2014 and have added workshops and lectures.

The headphone show presents headphones, starting with entry-level in-ear models all the way to high-end fullsize-headphones, sources from classic CD players to portable hires players, amplifiers for desktop and portable use as well as accessories for personal audio.

In addition to the commercial show, a dedicated community area hosts private headphone enthusiasts and give them ample opportunity to showcase their personal setup and DIY devices. New at CanJam Europe 2014: Workshops and lectures surrounding audio playback and reception, DIY and modification of hifi devices.

I have been asked to do a workshop or give a lecture as well during the weekend but I honestly wouldn’t know what about. Is there anything specific you might want me to talk about? I’d be more then happy to see what you guys are interested in.

Update:A lot of the brands have signed up in the mean time and it looks like it is going to be huge this year. Check out participating brands here. From what I have heard, the list is even growing…

It already was super last year but this year’s event is one you do not want to miss. And on top of that you’ll have a chance to meet yours truly. I’m usually a nice guy when surrounded by headphones and amplifiers so do come up to say hello, I’ll be there for both days!

Tickets are now for sale here, prices range from 2€ to 10€.

Headfonia, as media partner , has received a whole bunch of free weekend community tickets. Leave a comment down below with your email and I’ll get in touch with you for your free weekend pass.

I look forward to seeing you all there.

I’m so excited already!

Hm, it’s a 6 hour train ride from .ch but I’ll try to go. Wish me luck for the negotiations with my wife… 😉 Where else in Europe do we get to try so many different components?

Haha live in switzerland too 😉 Got an 9 hour train ride from my hometown. Will go If I can, but their are no prices offered from SBB (Swiss Railway) or DB (German Railway) D:

390 CHF regular price, 276 with swiss half-fare card according to the sbb website. Might be better to fly ZRH-DUS for about 110 EUR and take the train to Essen for about 30 EUR. Would be faster too.

Yeah searched it too, if by plane would be faster. And yeah it is faster and cheaper 😉 But don’t know where to stay over night. Maybe a hotel, but that for 2nights… Gone check that too. Greetz –

that sounds great, I really like to visit a place where I can compare headphones with amps. Will certainlytry to join. See if I can find a nice addittion for the B&OH6. Either another headphone or desktop amp.

Was really enjoyable. you were at the B&O stand, if I am not mistaken? maybe glad to know my H6, is still my favourite after canjam in the price range up to 800 euros.

Yes that is me 🙂 I really enjoyed being at the CanJam. There was SOOOO many great things to listen to. I had too little time to really listen to all.

The headphones I was most impressed by was in prioritized order:

            1. The Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor!! WOW just my taste. Bright and analytical. IF it was not so darn expensive….

            2. The Inears Stagediver 2. Such a great 2-way IEM. Flat and neutral response.

            3. The RHA T10i. With the treble filters it is a great IEM for the price.

            4. The Shure SE846. I liked it with the brightest filters.

I was mostly looking into IEMS this year but the Beyerdynamic T90 is also on my shortlist for my next full size.

Yeah this is a great hobby. Now tonight I also enjoy the H6 with the silver cable. It really has a great sound and it does compare to more expensive headphones when connected to the right amp and source.

That’s a nice shortlist. personally I don’t like the feel of in ear, so I ll stick to full sized. My favourites were:
              1. Audeze XC was number one, but it also has its price tag.
              2. The B&O H6
3./4.The Sennheiser HD 650 came next followed closely by the HD 800
5.Then the mr speakers alpha dog
After that it got too blurry for my ears and I will have to come back.
Each with it’s own character. But for the classical and orchestral music which I like best, the H6 and HD650 will be my favourites for now.

I really noticed the impact of amplification on the H6, like you said. I have a few ideas.
              My favourite there was:
              1. Lehmann linear (maybe the se, but I didn’t notice the difference in that short time)
              2. meijer corda
              3. vmoda vamp
The JDS was great for its price, but being used to B&O system, I want to go higher up the scale, so that didn’t make my list.
I hope to audition some other candidates, but I also found a violectric v200 (450) and burson soloist sl (389) 2nd hand; so that might be interesting too.
Now enjoying game of thrones music by ramin djawadi.
Enjoy your listening and it was great meeting you.

I use the v-moda Vamp Verza with several headphones incl. the DT1350, T90, and AKG K812.

sounds like one of your favourites. Just saw one 2nd hand for 200 euro. sounds not too bad a price.

It’s very good, but I wouldn’t suggest any of the high-treble headphones like HD800, AKG K812, Beyer T1 or T90 etc., unless you control the treble. It’s better than the Beyer A200p(AK10), but still can sound edgy with certain headphones. BTW – not enough power for the T1, but works OK with the others.

Head-fi has meets all along the East Coast, and their web page would be the place to find where special events are scheduled.

I just checked with Schiit and unfortunately they won’t be present at the CanJam. Is anyone from the community with a Bifrost/Asgard2 going to be there? I’d love to have a listen.

Well, I’m sure there will be plenty of other good gear to try out at the CanJam.
