Eletech Azrael and Cassiel Review

Azrael

The all-new Azrael cable is Eletech’s lowest priced cable of their entire offerings. It’s an all-copper cable with 25.5 AWG in size. They are using Ultra High Purity OCC Copper strands in a four-wire combination. Each Azrael cable is cryogenically treated and uses a multi-sized stranding design. Eletech also coated their cables with their own insulation, called FlexiMax. This, to my knowledge, is PVC based. The cable itself is very flexible and soft in hands and does have minimal microphonics and friction noise when using.

The design of the hardware is something I am very keen about. Eletech opted for an anthracite gunmetal look on their connector barrels, y-split and headphone plug. All of them feel very solid and top notch. What also shows Eletech’s dedication to details is the fine accents you can find in the filling parts of the splitter and plug. Those small geometric figures that are edged in are just the icing on the cake for me. The 4.4mm plug is gold plated and together with the metal barrel feels sturdy and robust.

On ear, or rather behind the ear, the Azrael feels very soft and light. I don’t get any discomfort when I’m wearing it with any of my In Ears. Even when I am wearing my glasses.

When you buy an Azrael cable you will also get a suede pouch and a cable tie as accessories.

The Azrael is available for 249 USD either directly through Eletech’s webshop or one of their dealers.

Cassiel

The Cassiel is a silver-plated copper cable that, just like Azrael, is cryogenically treated. It also uses a multi-sized stranding design with a total of 25.5 AWG. It features a High Dispersion Geometry with a Kevlar resilient core. When I asked Eric about it, he told me that they were able to optimize the area efficiency in a way that they could pack more conductors than usual within the same interior diameter space. The same geometry has been used in the Azrael.

Cassiel uses the same hardware as Azrael and comes with the same accessories.

Eletech sells the Cassiel for 299 USD.

Sound

The following impressions were gathered with the Lotoo PAW Gold Touch and PAW6000 as sources (as the cables are 4.4mm terminated) and the FIR Krypton 5, Xenon 6, Radon 6, Vision Ears Phönix and 64 Audio U4s and U18s as IEMs.

Let’s start with Azrael

The first thing I noticed on Azrael was the added space it brought around the vocals, making them stand out a bit more and giving them a bigger sense of emotions. At the same time Azrael also placed vocals slightly more in front of the stage.

Azrael gave my IEMs more precision especially in the low-end frequency spectrum. Bass sounds a touch fuller and warmer overall. With Azrael in the chain, bass is slightly heavier, but with sharper resolution around the edges, which makes it sound slightly more dynamic to me.

The midrange is a bundle of emotional warmth, smoothness, and air. While the mids have that aforementioned added sense of space in them, singers (especially male) sound a bit more powerful and – for the lack of a better word – emotional.

When putting my ear on the treble, I hear it as more detailed and maybe just a bit smoother. Azrael doesn’t take down much of treble energy though.

Another thing Azrael also excels at is resolution, layering and imaging. When going from stock to Azrael there is a noticeable step up in imaging sharpness and how musicians get displayed. The background of them becomes darker and their spotlight clearer. To me there the sound stage also got wider and deeper overall. Giving the sound more room in general.

Been into music and sound since he was a little brat, but spent his profession in a more binary field making things do what they were supposed to do. Ultimately just another dude on the internet with an opinion, into which you shouldn't put too much thought.
