In this review, we take a close look at the Eletech Odyssey cable. It is Eletech’s latest addition to their cable line-up retailing for $1,999 USD.
Disclaimer: Eletech supplied the Odyssey for this unbiased review. Headfonia and Eletech are in no way related to each other. Many thanks for the continued support and the generosity!
Eletech
Element Technology (aka Eletech) is a Singaporean boutique cable manufacturer that we have featured on Headfonia a couple of times already. Eletech has been co-founded by Eric Chong (previously with Effect Audio) who is very well known around our corners.
Their goal is to offer high performance cables at a reasonable price and summit-fi products for corresponding wallets. They also provide hardware that meets their own (quite high) standards. I have been handling their new products for a few months now, and the plugs, connectors and splitters are really good and well made.
Eletech’s portfolio of cables is discerned into four different series. The Virtues Series holds their entry-level products, which cater to first-time users as well and customers looking for bang for buck offers. The Azrael, Cassiel and Raphael (still one of my favorite cables to this day!) can be found in this series.
Their School of Athens Series is their mid-range cable series for customers who have a bit more to spend and are looking for unique signatures. In it we can find the Euclid (1,199 USD) and the Aristotle (749 USD). Then there’s the Paranassus series, which goes all the way for audiophiles with big pockets, in which we can find the Ode to Laura, as well as the Sonnet of Adam and the all-new Odyssey. All of these series are IEM cables only.
For headphone users there’s the Dante series, which right now has two products in it – the Inferno ($749 USD) and the Purgatorio ($2,399 USD).
Apart from cables, Eletech also offers leather accessories and interconnects and newly also Ear tips. Their leather cases are so sought after that they are pretty much sold out within hours of their release. Whenever you’re after one of their cases, it’s better to be quick!
Today we feature their latest IEM cable – the Odyssey!
Odyssey
The Odyssey is the virtual successor to their previous Iliad and Aeneid. Two cables that quickly won over the audiophile scene with their impressive sonic values and of course Eletech’s never ending boundary pushing design philosophy.
The Odyssey is a 24 AWG four-wire IEM cable using a triple bespoke alloy blend. It uses gold-silver, gold-copper and silver-copper alloy in a seven core litz design with multi-sized stranding. Eletech has implemented their golden ratio dispersion geometry, which we have seen since the launch of their Iliad cable a few years ago.
All of Eletech’s cables are cryogenically treated and use their proprietary FlexiMax insulation, which gives their cables a super subtle and flexible handling. This is especially important in terms of comfort, and here Eletech has gone a new route with the ear hook design as well, which you will see in the photos.
Eletech uses their bespoke solder for each of their cables. This ensures that their high standards are always met when it comes to cable design and sound.
Personally, I am always glad to see companies dot every I and cross every t carefully. Eletech definitely does that in my opinion.
You can customize your personal Odyssey to your own set of IEMs by selecting the connector. Your choices are Versa (2pin/MMCX), FitEar, UE/QDC or single 2pin and MMCX (no Versa). On the termination’s end you can pick between 2.5mm, 4.4mm and 3.5mm.
The Odyssey can be acquired for $1,999 USD through Eletech’s webshop or through one of their global retailers.
Build Quality
If you are accustomed to Eletech’s previous products, you already know that they put a lot of effort into the design of their products. Their cables are not just a way to connect your IEMs to your DAP; they are statements for luxury. Each and every plug and splitter are carefully designed to perfectly match the story of their products.
The plug of Odyssey features tiny little spears, one of which can also be found in the y-splitter’s design. On the other side of the splitter, we find an ancient Greek helmet. The level of detail and precision here is always astonishing to me, although I have held my fair share of Eletech’s products in hand already and should already be used to this.
The Odyssey’s build quality is plain out perfect. Everything just falls together, from the design to the braiding quality of the cable itself to the excellent comfort. I hardly notice the cable when I wear it for hours at work or during my daily commute.
Hat’s off to Eletech for their immaculate build quality and design.
Package
Another thing that Eletech’s customers should be used to by now is the comprehensive and luxurious package Eletech provides. When ordering an Odyssey you will get a sturdy and beautiful box, that, once you slide away the first layer, beholds a scene from Homer’s story “Odyssey”. If you don’t know already, Eletech draws inspiration for their names in ancient Greek and Roman literature and culture.
The Odyssey comes with an excellent dark brown leather carrying case, that holds your new cable and potential second Versa connector. When opening the box, you will find an acrylic glass that shows all the key features of the Odyssey. We have seen a similar one already with the Sonett of Adam.
Also in the box we find a leather cable binder (in the same design as the carrying box) and a metal card with your serial number on it.
The entire box-set is exemplary made and while I don’t think you need such attention to detail when it comes to cables and their boxes, I also love to see that Eletech goes the extra mile and don’t stop after the cable is soldered.
Again, hat’s off to Eletech for providing such an unboxing experience and accessory set!
