Linus – Setting the record straight

Well, this is a post I didn‘t think I‘d have to do. But it has been brought to my attention, that certain people of the industry are spreading false information and rumors as to why I quit writing for Headfonia.

Let me get this straight, I did not leave because I had a breakdown. I did not leave because Lieven and I got into a fight. And I certainly did not leave because I had a burn out from the intense review schedule (as a matter of fact, I was always minimum two articles ahead of schedule). Who would believe such nonsense? (Well, apparently there are enough weak minded individuals)

If your story starts with “I heard that…” let me just stop you, if you haven’t heard it from me, then you have heard absolutely nothing.

To everyone who contributes to spreading this false information: Get a life! Find something better to do. Bake a bread instead. Or cake, cake is good.

Listen carefully, I quit writing because I wanted more time for my kids – simple as that. But I guess it‘s not enough drama for some. Also, just for the sake of this post here: Lieven and I are fine, we are still friends and we regularly talk about random stuff, mostly non-audio related.

Another reason why I gladly left is the following. There are way too many people in this “review scene” (I hate that word), that are in it with the wrong intentions. For some it has never been about the sound, gear, enjoyment or excitement. It has gotten to be all about getting everything for free. The more expensive the better. People who pride themselves with what they got for free. It’s so ridiculous.

So, all you guys (you know I am looking at you) rest assured, rumors are rumors and they are 100% false.

A daytime code monkey with a passion for audio and his kids, Linus tends to look at gear with a technical approach, trying to understand why certain things sound the way they do. When there is no music around, Linus goes the extra mile and annoys the hell out of his colleagues with low level beatboxing.

Kudos to you! I’ve also chosen to leave a job to spend more time with my little ones and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. For those that have the opportunity to do so, why wouldn’t you?

It’s sad you had to come back just to clear the air and put rumors to rest, but I suppose that’s the world we live in now.

Best of luck to you and your family – they are the most important!

    Don’t fret about the haters!

I think I found Headfonia around 2014/5 when I decided to update my battered trusty Cowon J3 and started looking for reviews of what else was around. I’ve noticed a change in the scene since then too.

Part of it seems to be due to the ever-increasing pace of new audio products coming out, with many more products, manufacturers and brands entering the audio space than were previously around. The other change is probably the rise of YouTube and other similar means of delivering reviews. Both of these seem to have led to a proliferation of more review sites and channels, with the “review scene” becoming more of it’s own industry, moving away from the more audio/music enthusiast niche of reviews in the past, and becoming more commercialized, with all the free or “I don’t have to send it back” products that reviewers are offered. As a reader/viewer, I am left wondering about those conflicts at times, as well as how thoroughly people can really get to know a product with such a high turnover of reviews.

Anyway, obviously I’ve been popping back to Headfonia ever since I stumbled across it, as the team here seem to have their heads on the ground. Your reviews are missed! But glad that you’re spending more time with the kids.

Too bad many (if not most) people take for granted what’s written on some site without verifying the info. Even worse: why the fnck are there people distributing false info? What is the use of that? Futile to try and understand such individuals.

Respect for addressing your personal priorities and try to ignore the idiots 😉

Take care and stay safe Linus.

    Cheers,
