Disclaimer: The star of this weeks’ picture Sunday is the Astell&Kern ACRO L1000. This post is a part of our Picture Sunday series.
Astell&Kern
Astell&Kern doesn’t really need an intro anymore on Headfonia. We’ve covered many of their DAPs over the years and we’ve got a couple more reviews coming up.
Of course Astell&Kern is mostly known on here for their portable players but they in fact have several other non portable units in their product line-up. One of the most recent ones is this ACRO L1000 desktop DAC/AMP combination and boy am I in love.
Design
You either like or hate the Astell&Kern design team for the work they’re doing but to me they’re original and their products just ooze style. With the ACRO L1000 they managed to surprise me and the market again, with a very untypical design for a desktop unit.
Astell&Kern thinks outside of the box and as a result you get a gorgeous looking, perfectly built ACRO L1000 DAC/AMP. Not only does it look beautiful but it’s a very versatile unit as well. You can use it as DAC in combination with one of their DAPs or you can hook it up to your laptop. Output wise it’s even more impressive. You don’t only get a 6.3mm, 3.5mm and 2.5mm ablanced output, but you also get a 4-pin XLR balanced output as well as speaker connections. The ACRO L1000 puts out 2 x 15W, so yeah, call me impressed.
I look forward to exploring the L1000 the next few weeks at the office and of course it’ll be fully reviewed on HFN in due time.
Now let me get back to drooling .

How’s Astell & Kern ACRO L1000? Hope you are exploring it and I’m waiting for review…if I have any desktop amp will you prefer ACRO L1000 for me? I thought of buying Burson Play and I’m waiting for review to decide which one to go. I believe this amp will drive planar magnetic headphones. Thanks

I’m really loving it, I wish it was a bit more powerful from the SE out. sound wise it is a neutral tuned combo unit
I need to test it more with the balanced output with all types of headphones. the bad news is that the Play review will be done by Nathan, and the Acro by me. Sorry.
