TinHiFi T2 Plus review

Associations

  • TinHifi T2 Plus + FiiO M3 Pro: budget friendly-combo. The M3 Pro replaced the M5 most of the time for this review. It’s a good combination with the T2 Plus, thanks to the mid-centric signature the brand carried over and over. You get a true combo, for less than $150, great for beginners!
  • TinHifi T2 Plus + iBasso DC01: spaciousness and accuracy. The iBasso DC01 remains an unspoken gem to me and if I had to choose one USB-DAC, below 50 bucks, it would be this one. Paired with the T2 Plus (and a 2.5mm cable) you’ll be blown away by how good it sounds for how much it’ll cost you.
  • TinHifi T2 Plus + Chord Mojo: expressive and powerful. If the Mojo delivers tons of details once combined with the T2 Plus, that’s never at the expense of musicality. It’s a good combo, even if a bit unbalanced, but if you can, why not?

Comparisons

Want to compare with other chi-fi gears? Voila:

  • KZ ZS5: the best choice in the low-range in my opinion. It’s not as sturdy, nor beautiful, as the TinHifi T2 Plus, but it still sounds amazing in my opinion. Less accuracy, less spaciousness, but also less expensive. One of those IEM you should keep in your pocket as a spare part.
  • TinHifi T2/T3: beaten by the TinHifi T2 plus. The plus is truly deserved and if it’s still lacking in the lower end, it’s definitely better, both high and low, but especially the mids.
  • TinHifi T4: the T4 surpass the T2 Plus in every aspect, but some may find the prior too rigid, even synthetic. That said if your budget can reach the $100 ladder, get a T4: honest thought.

Conclusion

The TinHifi T2 Plus is a good upgrade, if not a revolution.

You get the TinHifi T4 sound signature but less resolving. Mids are superb, the soundstage is great but, the lack of bass is a deal-breaker for me. Maybe I had too many expectations, as both the T4 and P1 were a complete blast in terms of performances.

Still, if you balance things out, for $10 more, you get a T2 with: better design, better fit, better sound, and a cable league above the previous one. And that really deserves a plus, at least at the end of the name.

A nerdy guy with a passion for audio and gadgets, he likes to combine his DAC and his swiss knife. Even after more than 10 years of experience, Nanotechnos still collects all gear he gets, even his first MPMAN MP3 player. He likes spreadsheets, technical specs and all this amazing(ly boring) numbers. But most of all, he loves music: electro, classical, dubstep, Debussy : the daily playlist.

Any recommendation for DAC pairing (under $200, without going balanced)?
