Last week’s Winners

The C3 Audio cable giveaway is now over! The lucky winners will be contacted shortly by email (check your spam folder), so make sure to get in touch.

Number 35

As promised and explained earlier, we’ll be doing a year long of weekly giveaways and last September was the start of our 52-week celebration. For this 35th round of the biggest audio giveaway the world has ever seen, we’re giving away a custom IEM set of Lim Ears’ Model X! That is a $999 USD custom monitor! This excellent CIEM can become yours and all you have to do is … sign up and leave a comment. Any comment is good but tell me what the best IEM is you ever listened to.

But first, let’s look at Lime Ears and the Model X you can win.

About Lime Ears

From Linus’ Model X review:

Lime Ears is a Polish CIEM company that has been around for some years now. They started out working with professional sound engineers and musicians but have shifted their focus on the audiophile consumers a while ago with their triple driver and their flagship Aether

Emil luckily gave me a little history lesson about Lime Ears:

The company history is dated back to 2010 when, after graduating from the university (I’m a sound engineer by education) I was working as acoustic designer specializing in room acoustics of concert halls, cinemas and theaters as well as noise control in such places. I was an active bass player, performing with several rock bands. With one of them we started rehearsing in recording studios. With all instruments mic’ed up we used big over-ear headphones as our monitors. I was blown away with by clarity and quality of them. I started to be interested in in-ear monitors then. I looked around Google and found out about CIEMs. Back at the university I met Karolina who was an audiologist by education and had some prior experience in making the earmolds. I thought: why not to make the CIEMs then? After two long years of sourcing the materials, prototyping, attempts and fails to manufacture something useful I’ve got to the point when I thought that all this went so far that it should transform into a boutique company. We started Lime Ears as a duo in 2012. Slowly gaining recognition among Polish musicians, eventually we started gaining interest from the audiophile community around the world. Now, after five years of official existence, we’re working as a four-people team providing monitors for the majority of the Polish music scene, as well as getting more and more attention internationally from both professional musicians and the audiophile community.

Having the Aether as our extremely well-received flagship, the Model X fills the gap between LE3S and Aether. Like I said, I have may years of experience in room acoustics and noise control. And regarding to CIEMs my biggest interest is the methods of tuning them by changing the size and shape of the path that sound is travelling to your ear from the transducer. Implementation of acoustic filters, lengths, shapes and diameters of the canals enables to squeeze out some new qualities even from widely-used transducers. Thus the technologies we used in Model X are connected with this realm.

The Model X

The Model X fills the gap between the LE3S and Aether models and the goal was to achieve a powerful sound while maintaining great clarity and precision. The 4-driver Model X has not one but two popular signatures, which can be easily changed with a flip of switch: choose either the “perfect neutral” or the “warm and musical” depending on how you feel today!

You can find out all about the Model X on Lime Ears’ website here: https://limeears.com/model-x/

Of course we have reviewed the Model X on HFN and you can find the full review here:

Winner

The lucky winner will his/her unit shipped directly by Lime Ears. Lime Ears will cover the shipping fee of the CIEM to you but neither Headfonia or Lime Ears will not cover any other expenses such as VAT, import fees, tax, etc. This is all the winner’s responsibility so if you’re not up for that, it’s best not to enter. Lime Ears also won’t lower the unit’s value for shipping and it’s up to you to get a good set of ear impressions and send it to Lime Ears in Poland. It’s up to you and Lime Ears to talk about the faceplate options, etc.

In order to enter the competition you need to do the following steps:

  • Fill out the form on the page linked below. Use a real full name/surname to enter the contest (partial name entries are no longer accepted) + real email address as this is the address we will use to contact the winner
  • Leave a comment on this post you’re reading here. Preferably telling me what the best IEM is you ever listened to.

And while you’re at it like the Lime Ears and Headfonia Facebook pages HERE and HERE, if you haven’t already.

The winners will be chosen at random out of those that completed all 2 steps!

After signing up you’ll get a personal link to share. For each new participant that enters via your personal link on Twitter, Google+ or Facebook, etc. you get an extra chance to win!  Make sure you share/use the referrer link! By entering the giveaway you agree to the rules shown under the “ENTER” button

Participants will be contacted by email after subscribing, so by participating all entrants also accept us to email them. Do check your spam folder, but if you didn’t get an email you’re still entered. (Gmail addresses receive it slow/late! Don’t request us to check your entry)

These look amazing. My best experience so far is Etymotic – had to check the spelling – I couldn’t pronounce it for a long time, but they sound good and fit well. Lime certainly is much kinder on the tongue and the customisation is really special.

Best I’ve listened to: oBravo Ra-c-cu

    Personal favorite: JH Layla

Both the model X and the aether were two of the best IEMs I’ve listened to. I’ve always felt like model X doesn’t get enough love because it’s priced too closely to the aether and a lot of people just don’t bother with it. Glad it’s getting some attention here.

    • May 14, 2019

50 years ago I listened to an overear headset which set a bar so high in my ears I’ve searched, and continue to pursue, nurvana. Constricted by finances, there’s more exploring than experimenting. As most environments are not acoustically pure, the plain Klipsch R6I II in-ear headphones suffice.

  • May 13, 2019

    Bill McGovern

The best IEM I ve heard is limited to the small number I’ve purchased. The recently acquired BGVP DMG with balanced cables has taken first place from my 1MORE Quad Drivers. Thanks for the chance!

One of the best iems I have had the pleasure of listening to at Canjam would be Hidition’s NT6. Oldie for sure, but still the best in class when it comes to transparency and speed. When I tried the prototype of the Model X at Canjam, it reminded me of the presentation of the Hidition, especially how open and airy the midrange sounded. Both are superb iems if you value separation and clarity in a pair of earphones.

  • May 13, 2019

    Great earphones… I hope I can win this time…

I have started using over the ear noise cancelling headphones, I was getting pains in the ears from iem style. Maybe I was pushing them in too hard or something. These Lime customised beauties might just be the perfect personalised solution. Sonic Luxury.

I switch between different pairs for comfort and on ear phones also. My best IEM experience is Shure. I can’t remember which number they were, not the highest really expensive ones. 235? I lost them. And haven’t replaced them yet. Can Poland come to my emotional rescue?

The best experience I’ve had is trying out all the high end headphones in stores, over ear, for hygiene. There are some great designs. Function dictates form and all that. I love Hifiman, but haven’t won the lottery yet. I’d be more than happy winning these Limes – it would save me wasting my money on lottery tickets 😉 🙂

I’ve gone from cheap so so IEM to OK, currently Klipsch R6I. Nothing fancy. I could never buy these Limes for myself. They would have to be a present from a rich admirer, don’t have one of those so I have to rely on pure random luck. Here goes……

  • May 14, 2019

KZ ATE-S has yet to be topped by another IEM.

  • May 14, 2019

    Dana Hemmingmoore

I wish I could remember the model number, but the best IEM I ever owned was a pair of $79 Sony’s from 2002.. I listened to them almost daily until I got some Beats in 2010. I’ve gotten better about audio after that, but those two headphones got me excited about audio at a young age.

Sadly, I haven’t owned a great pair of iems since then. Although, the memory is probably the sweetest part of those old Sony’s I had.. I bet the X would sound even sweeter than memories can. 😉

  • May 14, 2019

    Hoai Le

would love to try this one

  • May 14, 2019

The best IEM I’ve ever listened to so far would be the Soundmagic E80. It had a neutral-ish sound sig and was pretty analytical, the only problem was the treble was a bit too hot at times plus the isolation was a bit mediocre.

  • May 14, 2019

Best I ever heard? Good question, I own the Noble Khan, and that one is near the best. I also liked the 64Ears Fourte, that one is certainly the most expensive I’ve heard, but not sure, in hindsight, if it is the best. The Khan does many things better but not the big out of your head sound-stage you get with the Fourte.

I have some RHA True Connect earbuds, three of them! I lost one of the first pair so bought another pair. I figure if I lose another one I will still end up with a pair, I hope. Will they connect? Grrrr…..anyway, if I win the Limes, I won’t worry about that anymore. I might only wear the Limes at home or in a safe environment. Too precious to lose!

  • May 16, 2019

Well, the best I’ve laid eyes on, if price is a guide, are Tia Fourté. I pressed my nose against the glass case and wondered to myself if they could possibly justify the price. When I saw the LIme Ears X Model I pressed my nose against the screen and wondered if I might get the chance to actually own these. That would be the highlight of 2019. Cancel all presents. I’m good.

I think we don’t realise how much better this stuff is getting over the years. The technology is improving and raising our standards. The best IEM experience I had was my first Walkman and cheap earphones. Yes, that is going way back. But I couldn’t believe it. Music in my ears. Portable sound. Lots of friends, and strangers – all IEM virgins – were chasing me around trying to get their first IEM experience. But I’m sure the sound was actually pretty terrible. And sometimes the tape got all tangled up. Happy days.

as it is hard for me to afford a good pair of iems, i tried saving up my allowance every month and tried to work for some part-time jobs to earn that extra money and i could finally afford a pair of Shure SE215s, which to me is the greatest earphone/iems i have ever used.

i wished i would be able to expose myself through more dynamic sounding earphones and have one customised one as it will be meaningful as well.

p.s. i spent close to $300 for the Shure earphone as my first seller scammed me of it. 🙁

I’m a sweaty runner so I’m using JBL True Wireless Flash. Catch me if you can. I’d use the Lime Ears for an elegant evening in a boring crowd. Smile, nod and listen to my music instead.

AKG i3003 are the best IEM I have heard. Clear treble without being too bright, pronounced midrange and deep bass, with adequate soundstage for an IEM. Ability to change filters based on listening preferences put these over the top!
