Picture Sunday – Effect Audio Horus

Effect Audio Horus

Disclaimer: The star of this weeks’ picture Sunday is the Horus by Effect Audio. This post is a part of our Picture Sunday series.

I have to be honest here, when I heard that Effect Audio would release a new flagship cable I was very curious, until Lieven told me how much it was going to retail for. Fortunately for me I was already very happy with Leonidas and had no urge to jump to the next level. But of course I wanted to give it a good spin. So when I met Lieven in Berlin last year, he gave it to me for the review of PW Audio’s 1960s cables to compare the four-wire version of it to EA’s masterpiece.

After the first day I sent Lieven a message „We have a problem – you’re not getting Horus back. It’s too damn good“. Of course he knew I was joking, but since then almost three months have passed and I have been playing with Horus ever since, with a little break because of an incident that made me send Horus back to Effect Audio.

Horus convinces from the first time you hold it in your hands. It’s in the very fine details EA put in there. The splitter, a rose-gold aluminium piece of jewelery, a barrel that beholds Effect Audio‘s logo on it. The chin-slider is an actual part of the splitter and therefore matches like heaven.

One thing that is also an Effect Audio only component is the excellent PSquared plug. A plug that is plated with Palladium and Platinum. It was first introduced with their Heritage Series’ Lionheart cable. If you’re not believing in cable sound, you most likely don’t give a rat’s ass about plugs. I also didn’t think it would make such a huge improvement, but recently I got myself a new set of Leonidas, my second pair, and the sonic differences are indisputably there compared to its gold plated counterpart.

Horus not only is a work of art in design, its sound qualities are mouthwatering, with a rich presentation throughout, incredible details and superior layering. The sound stage it creates is among the very best I’ve heard. Just like Leonidas it has a smooth and organic presentation, but takes it all to new levels. Horus matches perfectly well with all monitors I’ve tried it with, it is flexible and comfortable to wear and makes listening to music a completely new experience.

Not too long ago Lieven celebrated his birthday, and I still am hoping for dementia, so he forgets that he ever lent me this sexy beast. Sadly I don’t think that will happen, and I will have to give back my beloved Horus – well, Lieven’s Horus…

We’re very sorry about the delay with the Horus review, I hope this little Picture Sunday post did water your mouth as much as Horus does mine.

If this isn’t enough, there’s always Lieven’s video on the Horus
