Build Quality & Connection
Each Diana DZ headphone is hand-made in New York, USA and crafted from aircraft grade aluminum for a top-level strength. Build-quality-wise the Diana DZ is everything you would expect from such a high-end headphone. There are no flaws to be found and everything looks and feels superb. The pads also look and feel nice and are perfectly symmetrical.
I quite like the (new)magnetic system for the pads, and I feel this proves how serious Abyss is with the build-quality. As you can see in the pictures, each Diana DZ (driver) is laser engraved with the signature model and serial number. Looking at Diana DZ’s materials used and the level of workmanship, we can only give top marks for what build quality is concerned.
The stock cable that comes with the Diana DZ is very flexible and has a rubber sleeve finish. The stock length is 1.5m. After the Y-Split, it splits into two thinner 2-wires per channel, using a transparent sleeve. We opted for the 4-pin XLR balanced termination. Do note that the Diana cables are finished with special connectors, and these only fit the Diana series in one specific way. This means that it won’t be possible to use just any 2.5mm finished cable with the Dianas. You will have to make sure that the 2.5mm connectors are very small in diameter. JPS Labs also is a cable company, so the stock cable is of the same high level as the headphone is.
Price & Accessories
The Diana DZ comes in a standard white box with a portable case on the inside. Next to that you get the cable and pads of your choice. I opted for the vegan pads, but Abyss did also include the standard hybrid pads for the review.
The new Diana DZ is the most expensive Diana headphone, and prices start at $3,995 USD and €4.395 Euro. Prices can go up depending on the cable chosen and the additional pads you’re ordering.
While the new carrying case with the velvet lined interior is nice, I for the $4k USD selling price expected a more generous set of accessories, but you might see that differently.
You can buy the Abyss Diana DZ directly from Abyss or through one of their dealers here or here. When buying from Abyss-headphones.com, you get an impressive 10 Year Private Warranty.

Sound
Sound – Intro
In this section ze check out what the brands say about their own gear, and Abyss describes the Diana DZ’s sound as follows:
Diana DZ has beautiful imaging and realism to sound, like opening a larger window to the music with a big soundstage, micro detail, and depth. In essence DZ has a near limitless ability to scale with the best systems available, and constantly rewards its owner with cool insights into the music and system changes.
Basically that means that the DZ scales up with better amplification or “electronics” as Joe likes to call it, and we’ll get into that later in this article. Abyss also states that the DZ is the highest performing Diana headphone up to now, and it easier to drive than the TC. Tuning wise the Diana DZ has a focus on precision, depth and spaciousness.
Now it’s time to find out what it really sounds like!
