Eletech Ode to Laura Review

Eletech Ode to Laura

Comparisons

I don’t have any other mega high-end cable at hand to compare the Ode to Laura to, but I managed to snag a 4w  PW Audio 1960s from a friend for two weeks. I do have Eletech’s latest Sonnet of Adam as well, but at this point I don’t feel comfortable making any direct comparisons to it yet. Of course we’ll see the Laura make an appearance in the upcoming Adam review.

PW Audio 1960s

The 1960s is a cable that has been out for many years already, and if my memory serves me well, there should even be a revamped version out. Please don’t quote me on that though.

The PW is also a pure copper cable, with a slight difference. Unlike the Laura it is actually eight individual conductors. Most people also already know, that the PW is basically a Cardas Clear Light (or Cardas Clear?) cable. A cable that is considerably cheaper than the PW. The only difference is the hardware and a special solder. But the cable is still Cardas.

Anyway. In comparison to each other I find the Laura to reach deeper into the bass, with a bit more rumble and authority. The PW is dryer and not as tactile as the Eletech flagship. In the mids, Laura is fuller and lusher, while the PW is more transparent and faster. Both cables have an immensive amount of details in their sound, and it’s very hard to pick a winner here as both deliver such an impressive performance on a technical level. Where the Laura does show PW its rear-view-mirror though is in shaping the stage. Laura offers a more immersive and 3D stage, letting you be in the music. At the top PW delivers more speed and a more aggressive tonality. PW is sharper and brighter, while Laura is softer and more relaxed.

Conclusion

Eletech’s Ode to Laura is an ode to a perfect copper cable. It has this organic, analogue sound that many people will love. But it will also please any detail-lover and resolution purist that wants a high end cable to tickle out all the information there could possibly be hidden somewhere in the chain. Laura is an exemplary execution of how good a single material cable can be.

I know we are pretty late to the Laura party with our review, but I am so glad we could finally join in and give you our view of this spectacular cable.

Eletech’s TOTL offering sure is a serious force in the field and I doubt Laura is only here to play. She’s going to stay at the table of the best copper cables out there money can buy.

Pros:

  • Exemplary performance
  • That resolution!
  • Build Quality
  • Exemplary customer service (see head-fi thread and Eric’s presence 😉 )

Cons:

  • Comes at a very premium price
  • Wire-flexibility

Been into music and sound since he was a little brat, but spent his profession in a more binary field making things do what they were supposed to do. Ultimately just another dude on the internet with an opinion, into which you shouldn't put too much thought.

Felix, “Their goal is to offer high performance cables at a reasonable price…” $2,799 USD, I said it must be a typo. Checked on their website, no typo that’s the price!!!
    Felix, you must be kidding!
