Eversolo – DMP-A6 Review

Eversolo DMP-A6

Package

In the package of the Eversolo you’ll find a power chord, a USB A to B cable, a pouch, a warranty card and a quick-start guide next to your DMP-A6 streamer. Everything seems to be packed securely, making sure that there won’t be any scratches on the unit when it arrives.

On the touchscreen there’s also a protective film installed that needs to be taken off before you start using it.

The Eversolo does not come with a remote control out of the box, but I saw on the German Eversolo page, that there is one available to buy for 30 Euros.

When looking at the build quality, I must admit, that it is a very robust piece of gear. The whole unit is made of aluminum and held in black. The feet look quite decent and come with rubber parts, so the unit won’t glide around on your shelf. Overall I am very pleased with the construction and build of the DMP-A6. It’s also a very simple and elegant design, which is something I like as well. I don’t want flashy units. I prefer simple things.

Performance and Sound

Using the Eversolo is quite easy. You can just download the App EverSolo Control in either the Play or App Store and use your phone, or you could use the built-in touchscreen on the front. Since I have used the unit only when it was a few meters away from me, I opted for the phone. During my time with the Eversolo I didn’t encounter any major bugs in the software.

Speaking of the software. The Eversolo DMP-A6 comes with a heavily modified Android 11 system. It’s not an open Android, where you can install any app you want though. There’s a list of apps that Eversolo lets you use. You can’t just hit up the Play Store and download anything you want. But with their selection of streaming services you should have all bases covered. Though I must admit, that I definitely don’t know all the streaming services that exist. So maybe you’re not covered.

One cool thing about the app is Cast Mode. This basically is screen mirroring of your phone on the Eversolo’s touchscreen. It’s not 100% in sync, but nice to see nonetheless in my opinion. Should you hit that mode, you have to know, that you can only use your phone horizontally then, as the DMP-A6’s screen is oriented that way.

I have used the Eversolo in two systems at home. In our office feeding my active Klipsch speakers and in our living room as a streamer into a stereo setup, where it either went directly into my PS Audio pre-amp or as a digital source feeding my Chord Hugo TT2 ones and zeros.

The Eversolo produces a very honest sound. By that I mean that it will be very true to the source that comes in. I don’t know if the word clinical applies here, but to me that’s what the Eversolo is like. It is a neutral sound, that doesn’t add anything to the music.

The Eversolo won’t ever hide blemishes of the recording, it won’t make any track or album sound pleasing. If the record has been mastered well, it will show it, but it will also quite drastically show you if an album has bad recording. It won’t cover up someone’s mistakes by filling up the bass and lower mids to give you a warmer, darker sound and enrich thin music. That’s absolutely not what the Eversolo is or does. This one wants to show you your music in the most exact way it can.

In that pursuit of precision, the Eversolo comes with very high resolution and technical abilities. The DMP-A6 sounds open and spacious. It has very good sound-stage width and places instruments easily in the scene. Its imaging and separation is truly outstanding.

Been into music and sound since he was a little brat, but spent his profession in a more binary field making things do what they were supposed to do. Ultimately just another dude on the internet with an opinion, into which you shouldn't put too much thought.

Although it doesn’t have the play store you can side load a number of android apps like PLEX or SmartTube and some others as apk’s.

It’s a versatile little box of tricks (cd ripping too! though some cd drives are a bit tempremental, my ASUS drive works fine.

There have been several OTA software updates (one due very soon) and the team seem very active if bugs are reported to get them fixed.

I wanted to bring up a correction you need to make on page one. You can add the NVME storage to Roon by sharing the storage as a SMB share and then pointing your Roon core to that share.

How useful is a music streamer if you already own a high-quality DAC and a headphone amp?
Did this streamer make music via Tidal sound better than running your DAC through your computer or laptop?

Quite a lot seeing as this one doesn’t have a headphone amp in it

The HDMI output isn’t for ARC/eARC of TVs right? Would have to get the DMP-A8 for ARC capability.
