Today we review the FiiO SP3 BT, an active speaker from FiiO, which goes for $349 USD.
Disclaimer: The FiiO SP3 BT was sent to me by FiiO. Many thanks for the opportunity. This review reflects my honest opinion as always.
FiiO
FiiO is a brand that needs no introduction, it is a well-renowned player in the world of audio. In case you’re not aware of them yet, you can quickly visit their store or official website. FiiO boasts a vast range of portable audio devices and strives to compete in every field it operates in. We’ve reviewed dozens of FiiO gear over the years and you can check them out here.
FiiO SP3 BT
Last year, FiiO introduced its first-ever speaker, the SP3. Nano has reviewed it in June 2023, and you can check that review below:
The SP3 BT is simply an updated model to enable Bluetooth connection to the SP3 model. Every other feature is identical. As I remarked before in my FiiO reviews, the company has been pushing products to appeal to desktop PC users lately. They released the R7 and R9 desktop streamers, a keyboard, and recently a speaker and now we have the Bluetooth version of the speaker. They try to offer complete desktop solutions.
Let’s check the main features of the SP3 BT before we move on with packaging, design, and build:
- BT connectivity was added with the BT version
- 3.5mm carbon woofer and 1-inch silk tweeter
- TI power amplifier
- QCC5124 Bluetooth chip with LDAC and aptX adaptive codecs
- RCA and 3.5mm line input
- RGB Lightning
Packaging
The packaging of the FiiO products has been great for a few years now, and the new SP3 BT is no exception. The supplied input cable and the L/R connection cable are particularly impressive. You get:
- AC power adapter
- RCA to 3.5mm input cable
- 8-pin L/R speaker connection cable
- Two pairs of rubber bases (straight and angled)
Design & Build
The FiiO SP3 speakers are designed to complement the aesthetics of the R desktop series, drawing from its sleek and modern design. They boast a full-aluminium chassis, crafted from two die-cast parts, which gives them a premium look and feel. This construction approach mimics high-end brands.
The design features flowing lines and a pierced grill protecting the tweeter. The build quality is top-notch with no visible gaps and high-quality materials used throughout. They are available in both black and white finish, catering to different aesthetic preferences. For the price, it’s hard not to be impressed by the full aluminium chassis of the FiiO SP3.
While they may not match the density and heft of professional monitor speakers, they exceed expectations when compared to multimedia speakers, providing a pleasant surprise in terms of build and sound quality. The SP3’s design is likely to appeal to tech enthusiasts, particularly with its RGB-illuminated base, which adds a touch of flair. The speakers are noted to look better in person than in pictures, which enhances their appeal when placed in a home or office environment.
I/O
In terms of I/O, the FiiO SP3 is quite conservative, offering only two inputs: an RCA and a 3.5mm line input. This might seem limited compared to other speakers in this range, which often include a phono input and various digital inputs.
However, considering that these speakers are designed to pair with the FiiO R7, which boasts a plethora of inputs and outputs, the limited I/O on the SP3 isn’t a significant drawback.
Additionally, the primary speaker includes:
- A volume knob
- A bass knob, ranging from -8dB to 0dB
- A toggle to invert the left and right channels
- An input selector
- An RGB selector
At the bottom, you’ll find:
- A power button
- A DC input for a 24V/4.2Ah power supply
- A DIN port to carry the signal from the main to the secondary speaker

I bought these as an entry level for my PC.
I wanted something better than Bluetooth speakers but budget was quite important.
Very happy as an beginner audiophile.

What was the codec used when judging bluetooth audio quality? Don’t get why was it omitted as it can be very important asterisk to BT quality.
