As promised and explained earlier, we’ll be doing a year long of weekly giveaways and last September was the start of our 52-week celebration. For this 32nd round of the biggest audio giveaway the world has ever seen, we’re giving away one Earsonics Grace and one Effect Audio Ares II 8W for Easter for one lucky winner! That’s an IEM & cable setup worth around $2900USD!! These excellent IEMs can become yours and all you have to do is … sign up and leave a comment. Any comment is good but tell me what you did for Easter.
But first, let’s look at Earsonics, their Grace and Effect Audio and their Ares II 8W.
About Earsonics & Effect Audio
Earsonics is a European company which is based in the south of France. The company was founded around 10 years ago by Frank Lopez and Earsonics quickly gained a following in the audio community. How? Simply by making well built, great sounding gear. It probably wouldn’t be wrong to say that the company has its own fan base. We can say that they have no concerns about giving an absolute reference or flattest sound, but they’re rather interested in creating earphones with relatively colorful and distinctive characters. That approach has pleased many fans of Earsonics.
Effect Audio is an aftermarket cable company located in Singapore that over the last few years has grown from a starter to one of the tone setters and innovators in the sector. We’ve reviewed a series of their cables here on HFN over the years but I use several of there other cables which I never reviewed. In 2009, Effect Audio was founded to meet the needs of a niche segment of the audiophile and music industry professionals market. Each cable undergoes precise fine-tuning and testing and their goal is to deliver quality value-for-money options. Effect Audio aspires to become the leading expert in the sound industry, especially where upgrade cables are concerned, bringing reliable and trustworthy information to their customers.
The Grace and Ares II 8W
From what I can see it is a three-way passive crossover design with dual lows, quad mids and quad highs. The Grace uses EarSonics proprietary balanced armature drivers and is rated at 119 dB per Milliwatt. With an impedance of 26.6 Ohms it comes in as moderately sensitive. It doesn’t pick up hissing from any of my sources. It’s frequency response is stated from 10 Hertz to 20 Kilohertz. Each pair of them is hand finished in France by one of EarSonics’ technicians. They even let you know who assembled them, as there is a card telling you in the packaging.
The eight-wire Ares II is the + version of Effect Audio‘s regular Ares II cable. It consists of eight individual UPOCC Litz Copper wires with an American Wire Gauge of 26. It features Effect Audio‘s proprietary multi-sized stranded design within a single encapsulation. This exact fact enables Ares II to achieve distinct highs and details, because of the enhanced signal-speed. When you order a bespoke Ares II, you can of course select the termination and connectors of your cable. In EA‘s portfolio you will find options for 2-pin, MMCX, FitEar, JH Audio, Sennheiser and others, as well as 3.5 mm stereo, 2.5 mm balanced, 4.4 mm Pentaconn and other more exotic plugs.
The lucky winner will get his unit shipped directly by Earsonics and Effect Audio. They will cover the shipping fee but neither Earsonics, Effect Audio nor Headfonia will cover any other expenses such as VAT, import fees, tax, etc. This is all the winner’s responsibility so if you’re not up for that, it’s best not to enter. Earsonics and Effect Audio also won’t lower the unit’s value for shipping.
The winner can choose the termination of the cable at both ends.
In order to enter the competition you need to do the following steps:
