HEDD Audio

HEDD Audio is a German company founded in 2015 by Physicist Klaus Heinz and his son, Mastering Engineer / Musicologist Dr. Frederik Knop. The HEDD team consists of musicians and loudspeaker nerds, electrical engineers, graphic designers, and admin pros, all of whom are fully committed to the creation of this new brand.

HEDD is especially known for the production of high-end loudspeakers that have become established constants in diverse fields: from music production processes in professional recording and mastering studios to radio broadcasting, installation and finally home HiFi.

Heinz’ loudspeaker designs have always stayed true to the same ideal of sonic excellence: they have, above all, always aimed to produce complete accuracy and outstanding signal fidelity while being less concerned with tinging recording audio material with pleasing tonal colors. It comes, therefore, as no surprise that the product development department at HEDD | Heinz Electrodynamic Designs is fully committed to the idea of creating versatile and surgically precise studio monitors.

These brand-new studio monitors take another technological step in the development of the Air Motion Transformer. Years ago, Heinz revolutionized the professional world of audio production by introducing his first Air Motion Transformer. Today, AMT systems are used wherever an extremely precise and vivid reproduction of high frequency material is called for.

On the HEDD website we can find this info:

The Air Motion Transformer (AMT) is an electrodynamic transducer that allows to move air significantly faster than common voice coil, magnetostatic (planar) or electrostatic systems. Their traditional piston-like movement is overcome by a folded diaphragm that squeezes out air four times faster: A breakthrough for capturing more details in any audio recording. In order to reproduce the complete audible frequency band (and beyond), HEDDphone® introduces VVT® technology (pat. Pending), a new variable diaphragm geometry that replaces the fixed geometric structure of conventional AMT tweeters.

More on AMT by HEDD can be found here: https://hedd.audio/pages/air-motion-transformer

If you want to read up on the AMT technology, you can also do so on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Motion_Transformer

It’s not the first time AMT drivers are being used in the ear- and headphone world, but the HEDDphone just might be the first full range AMT driven headphone.

HEDDphone (TWO)

With all their AMT speaker experience, HEDD found it was time to explore the headphone market with a full range AMT driver. How could they not with the HEDD company name like that, is was meant to be. Right? This resulted in the HEDDphone back in 2020. The original HEDDphone’s product page can be found here: https://hedd.audio/products/heddphone. I do suggest to read up on our review of the original HEDDphone here:

Now HEDD is back with the 2nd generation of this award winning headphone, and their latest creation is called the HEDDPhone TWO.

HEDDphone TWO Features

The new HEDD AMT driver now is more precise and lighter than before. It has been reconstructed from the ground up, and it according to HEDD ensures that every sonic detail is more vivid and lifelike than ever before. With their VVT – Variable Velocity Transformation, HEDD allows the AMT driver to achieve even frequency response across the entire audio spectrum. You can find out more about the AMT drivers on HEDD’s website linked above.

HEDDphone TWO is the culmination of three years of relentless R&D. Every aspect has been refined for an unparalleled audio experience.

The changes however are not only driver related. There also is a new carbon-fiber headband which is ultra-light and durable. We also have an ergonomic head pad which reduces pressure, and there is a smart strap system which adjusts the shape and tension. The PU leather ear pads are comfortable, even with glasses and the TWO features forward-facing connections producing a more natural cable direction.

You can find the TWO’s shop page here. The TWO is selling for €1.999 Euro and the first batches have already been sold out completely. Right now you can pre order from the 4th release batch.
