RHA TrueConnect 2 Review

RHA TrueConnect 2

In this article we review the TrueConnect 2 from RHA, which is selling for $149 USD.

Disclaimer: RHA sent us the $149 TrueConnect 2 for this review, free of charge. I only covered the import taxes and fees. All thoughts and experiences with the product are naturally my own. However subjective, 25h burn-in was completed before the review.

We are taking a look at the successor of the original TrueConnect that we reviewed a couple of months ago. RHA made many improvements. Keep on reading to find out all about the changes in detail! If you haven’t read the original TrueConnect review already, you should look here first:

RHA

RHA Technologies is a British, independently owned audio company specializing in the design and production of a wide range of audio products. RHA stands short for Reid and Heath Acoustics and they’ve been in the industry since 2011.

The foundation, however, goes back to 2008. They have a blog-like journal on their website and the articles are quite interesting to read. They also share playlists and audio-related news so you should definitely check them. My first interaction with RHA was in an Apple Retail Store. This gem of an earphone smiled at me from the back of the store, the aluminum design caught my eye immediately and I was hooked.

RHA TrueConnect 2

If you have ever seen an RHA product in real life, you know that their designs are sleek. You will hear this word over and over again in all my RHA reviews. They have a very elegant, robust design language that I adore very much. They also provide killer support and have an absolutely awesome crew over in Glasgow.

We have reviewed many RHA products on Headfonia before, you can find those reviews here.

Packaging & Design

Just like last year’s model, this year’s model features chic packaging. A neat white box with navy accents welcomes you.

RHA listed specifications and features on the box, along with a little text that says “Designed & Engineered in the UK”. If you go ahead and unbox it, you’ll see a splendidly designed earphone case. Raw, sanded aluminum borders, silky-smooth black finish, 3 modest LEDs and my favorite, swivel-open mechanism revealing the earphones themselves. They sport a smooth rubberized coating, stem design for improved mic acoustics and unlike the original TrueConnect, the TrueConnect 2 features new NC microphones and capacitive touch controls.

Designers of RHA chose this STEM-type design for its functionality. Each earphone has some kind of rod, and the microphone system is located at the end of that rod, facing the direction of your mouth. RHA believes that this improves call quality and offers better, clearer calls. I’ll talk about this more in the functionality section. RHA provides us with a wide range of silicone ear tips but unlike the first gen, TrueConnect 2 does not come with Comply Foams. There are many size silicon tip options so you won’t have a problem finding one for your ears.

On a side note, even the ear tip tray is stainless steel. One thing that would be great if RHA were to include it, is a little carry pouch. As you know, the charging case is an all-aluminum design and things like keys, coins can leave marks on the surface. A velvet carrying pouch would definitely solve this problem for us.

Furthermore, RHA updated their design and improved IP5X certificate to IP55. This means TrueConnect 2’s stem design is even more dust proof than before. IP55 is a serious feat, it practically means that you can use TrueConnect 2 under any weather condition. It is weatherproof. Bring on the water, dust & sweat!
