Eletech Aeneid Review

Sound Quality

Aeneid is a smooth and soft sounding cable with great resolution and imaging. It provides very good depth, width and layering to the sound, making the overall signature very relaxed and airy. It provides excellent timbre, musicality and blood to the mid-range.

The big difference the Aeneid puts to the table is the smooth, refined and relaxed approach. Meanwhile, it also provides great technicalities to the sound. The presentation with the Aeneid is a 3D one with great layering and positioning. Other regular cables give a “papery” sound, whilst the Aeneid is very fluid and three dimensional.

Once you start to use the Aeneid with your favourite IEMs, you immediately hear more space between each element of a song, and a more refined treble with better definition, air and transparency. I can say those are the first striking impressions of it.

Bass

Bass is tight, controlled and dynamic. The decay is great and you get a better definition overall. The Aeneid doesn’t necessarily alter the bass presentation, but it improves it in every possible way. You get a better pace and attack, and the bass hits cleaner with a very good decay. Lows are well-textured too.

Eletech Aeneid

This is a very refined bass response without any significant changes to the presentation. Dynamic driver units benefit from the cable most, hitting with a cleaner and quicker bass. BA drivers also receive gains such as refinement, texture and decay. If you want to improve your bass response, it would be quite difficult to find a better cable than the Aeneid.

Mids

The mid-range sounds very fluid and realistic with the Aeneid. You get great note size and it almost feels like you switch to real life from a digital world. The instruments and vocals are very organic and natural. The realism is very impressive and as I remarked, it gives life and blood to this area with great texture.

The instruments in particular sound breathy and they’re very refined and smooth. The timbre is excellent and the presentation becomes very realistic overall. However, when paired with warm and fat-sounding IEMs, the presentation in this particular area can get a bit too smooth and dense. So I recommend pairing this cable with neutral and spacious IEMs. That combination creates an excellent presentation and combines the best of both worlds.

Treble

Treble is one of the most impressive feats of the Aeneid. Especially sharp and clear sounding IEMs benefit the most. Highs become smoother with the Aeneid, but you also get better resolution and definition in this area. Normally a “smooth treble” is associated with low focus and clarity, but that’s not the case here. You simply get great refinement and extension in this area.

I have to say this is one of the very few times I’ve heard a piece of audio equipment “tames” the treble but makes it more extended, relaxed and resolving all at the same time. That is special stuff right there. If you have high-end IEMs that present the treble with a crisp and sharp approach, then you can pair them up with the Aeneid and hear the result yourself. Again, fantastic refinement and definition.

Technical Performance and Pairing

In terms of technicalities, the best part about Aeneid is its imaging and staging capabilities. The layering of sounds is excellent and that is a big difference from other cables. The Aeneid sets the bar very high in that respect. The soundstage depth and width are very impressive. It smooths out the presentation excellently and you listen to a very relaxed and organic sound with great resolution.

The micro-details are clearer and easier to spot, thanks to the black background the cable provides. Aeneid also offers great balance and coherency, making the sound evenly distributed. But the layering performance is one of the most distinguishing features of this cable. That is a separating factor in this hobby for many types of equipment, and that is the case here. You can focus on the recordings perfectly well and spot every nuance. But beyond that, you can spot their positions with an excellent definition.

When you switch to a stock cable, this feature is even more apparent. Stock cables produce a one dimensional, flat sound. When you switch to Aeneid, everything is well layered and imaging is very impressive. So the full-bodied and organic nature is not for every IEM signature-wise, but I can easily say that Aeneid has a very high level of technical performance.

Aeneid looks for neutral and bright sounding gear to compliment. I wouldn’t advise you to match it up with warm, analogue sounding IEMs. The presentation may become too focused on the mid-range and it would be a bit too full-bodied. Instead, you can get the Aeneid for your reference-like, bright and clear sounding IEMs. That would create a perfect pairing.

Different people have different budgets. No one is forcing you to buy a high end cable, if you’re happy with a $5 USD one, go ahead and enjoy the heck out of it. But let people who enjoy these high end cables enjoy them.

if you really think you can hear any difference between audio cables you should consult a psychiatrist

And you might need to visit a nose, throat and ear specialist 😉
