The Flares Gold actually aren’t sold anymore but Flare Audio secured a unit just for this review. This might be your ultimate shot at getting your hands on a brand new set of Flares Gold IEMs!
It’s Nathan who reviewed the Flares Gold for us and he had this to say:
Flares Pro cemented my love for wireless, and sounded really good. Its tradeoffs were few: a bit of scratchy treble here, inelegant fades in both the bass and treble; overall, however, it blew my brain. It still does. Flares Gold one-ups Flares Pro. Its natural stereo gradients are as natural as it gets and return an overall softer reactive frequency response that gels better with harsh live music and sounds great for trance, hip hop, rock, jazz, and more.
Its DAC is still top notch. Because Gold follows Pro’s suit, it reveals very little to no hiss from just about any source. It is the perfect companion for sources both good and bad. I can’t praise it – and Flare Audio’s penchant to refine – enough.

Flare Audio will cover the shipping fee of the IEM to you but neither Headfonia or Flare Audio will cover any other expenses such as VAT, import fees, tax, etc. This is all the winner’s responsibility so if you’re not up for that, it’s best not to enter. Flare Audio also won’t lower the unit’s value for shipping.

No surprised, I guess my favorite amp is the one I currently use. Now it’s the LH Labs Geek Out V2+ infinity. A mobile DAC/amp, rather small with internal battery and several filters to learn which sounds good with different genres: It’s not just the choise of DAC that makes for good SQ. Listening with Flares Gold probably will make just as big a difference. I’m in.

I have to say that as great as the Meier Corda Classic has been these past few months, I probably still have more hours on the little hand assembled Pocket Class A amp from xrk971 on the diyaudio forum. It happens to be what I use at work with a rotating kit of batteries so it gets a lot of consistent use. Also, the amount of blood, sweat, and tears still have their marks.

My NAD D3020 is a modest amp but it’s so convenient. Has a headphone jack, Bluetooth, works with my Spotify and Tidal from my Android phone, can read off my home Hard Disk Drive / NAS.

I love iem because they are portable and I much prefer them to headphones … Iniltre I do not find true that many of them do not have soundstage indeed … it is just another way to listen to music and I love doing so with my portable daps and with the last one I bought the cowon plenue L, my absolute favorite, you have an out of the ordinary experience if you are able like me to optimize eq more dsp, because it brings the iem to the maximum potential, above all in terms of air / separation of instruments, size of soundstage, details … with flares gold I think I will get the best !! My absolute favorite amplifier is something that doesn’t belong in the head fi world, it’s the Sansui Six powering a pair of Yamaha NS1000! (Maybe the Sansui 8 Deluxe is even better, but I never had the chance to see one in person)
When it comes to the portable stuff, I really like the Alo CDM (which I really regret selling) and the chord Hugo 2.
