It’s finally time for the 2021 Awards. This is the most awaited article of the year, the one which readers and companies always anxiously wait for. This is the article in which we award the best gear of 2021. First up are Berkhan, Felix and my own selections!
You will find the other writer’s selections here on Sunday.
2021 Awards – Year Overview
Like last year, Covid 19 still ruled the world but even though a lot of shows were cancelled, we this year did see a whole series of new products unlike last year. Personal audio is back in full force! Where 2020 was a year in which the focus was on portable gear, 2021 was a year in which desktop came fully back under the attention. Sure, DAPs and IEMs still are the most popular but we have been spoiled with some really great amplifiers, DACs, and full-sized headphones this year as well. Unfortunately, not everyone can win an award but we’ve managed to select the best of the best.
2021 for myself was an incredibly busy year and I’m grateful that my loved ones all stayed safe. I’m very pleased with the writer staff we have at the moment and I can’t thank Berkhan, Nano, Matty, Yagiz and Felix enough for being part of Headfonia. I also want to thank all of you readers for all the years of support. I am proud of the team and the quality we have been delivering for over a decade already, and I promise to keep things exciting for all of you.
But without further ado, here are the winners of 2021. Let’s go!
2021 Awards – Winners
As usual, we have plenty of categories and each writer gets to nominate the best of the gear they reviewed over the last 12 months. Logically not all writers will share the same awards/categories because we have all listened to different gear.
This year we next to the writer awards have a product of the year selected by myself as Chief Editor, and then Sunday we have the Team’s Product of the Year announcement.
The winner of the “Chief Editor’s Product of the Year” award is the…..
“Meze Audio ELITE”
It’s the well-deserved winner of the 2021 Product of the Year Award.
From the review:
Meze together with Rinaro built new drivers from the ground up, and that resulted in a more balanced, faster, more precise and cleaner sounding headphone. The clarity of the ELITE is really nice and it does complex and fast passages in a better way. The Empyrean is still good, but the ELITE is a technically stronger headphone. At the same time you can rest assured that there still is plenty of body, bass and fun in general. While it actually is a new headphone, I can see why it would be a higher end or dare I say improved Empyrean for many out there. As said, I’m lucky to have both headphones here with me and I’ve been switching between both a lot. If I have to decide now which one suits my tastes best, it would be the ELITE.
