Design & Build Quality

Shell

With the same rounded design as their predecessors, the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 don’t come as a surprise anymore – which doesn’t mean that they are bad looking by any means. In fact, I think I was a little harsh on the TW3 back in the time, even more seeing how good looking they appear nowadays, compared to the overly convoluted shape of the Sony WF-1000 MX5, or the monotonously white, tail-focused, Apple AirPods Pro 2.

I got a pair of charcoal/bronze TW4 and the bi-tonal design gave me a strong impression out of the box, especially with the bronze plate on top, giving subtle iridescent reflexion under the grazing light. A cool touch visually, enhanced by the carved logo on top, outlining the premium design Sennheiser aim to display with their latest creation.

Once in hand, the Momentum TW4 gave the same confident feeling as the TW3, reinforced by the thickness of the shell, giving the Sony a run for the money. Those are made to last and, on a daily basis, they should be able to withstand the city life harshness with ease – especially now that they are IP54 certified.

Same goes for the charging box, which remains one of the classiest and prettiest one available at the moment. Covered by a greyish / brownish / black fabric, this tiny box opens like a clamshell and gives a very satisfying sensation when you close the lid, much more than my AirPods Pro box by comparison.

Build quality

Almost identical to the TW3, the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 remain on the top league in terms of build quality, all thanks to their sturdy design and improved construction.

I lost them quite a few times while removing them from my ears. Happily, they survived the concrete, the wood, the tiles, and even the mud. Sure, they will break if you stomp them, but all acrylic/plastic IEMs will.

The three-layer shell is impeccably glued together, to ensure a perfect seal for the IP54 certification. and consists of :

  • the faceplate, harboring the Sennheiser logo
  • a middle ring designed to lock the Momentum tightly in your ear
  • the inner side where you’ll find the charging ports and the ear canal

The charging box is the same and even after a few weeks in my backpack, it still looks flawless and the fabric cover acted like a protective layer against fall and wears.

It’s sturdy enough to protect the Momentum from light falls and commuting. The magnet is perfectly well dosed, with just the right force when you open/close the clam, and the plastic lid is also very well-designed.

Last but not least, you have an USB-C port for charging purposes, and a small led indicating whether your TWS is fully charged, charging, or battery depleted.

Inside the box

With each generation, Sennheiser seems to narrow their box even further – which isn’t a bad thing for both ecological, and logistic reasons. And, unsurprisingly, Sennheiser was quite parsimonious with the True Wireless 4, like all TWS maker in fact.

In the box you have :

  • the Sennheiser True Wireless Momentum 4
  • one USB-A to USB-C cable
  • three sets of silicone ear fins (S/M/L)
  • four sets of silicone ear tips (XS/S/M/L)
  • some documentations

And… that’s all! But, considering the target audience, that’s fair.

He likes spreadsheets, technical specs and all this amazing(ly boring) numbers. But most of all, he loves music: electro, classical, dubstep, Debussy : the daily playlist.

I just read a comment on Amazon where the guy says this earphone’s Bluetooth will not pair with Windows or Mac computers, only with Apple or Android phones. That is a huge limitation.
