In this article we give you a fourth update on the status of the 2023 Reader voted best gear polls.
Almost 7 full months have passed since we launched the 2023 Reader Voted Best Gear polls. For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, check out the page below where we announce and explain the Reader Awards. Anyway, it’s time for another update. Let’s find out what you so far in 2023 find to be the Best / Your favourite Gear on the market!
The categories this year are the same as last year and they are the following:

The Status on July 9 is the following:
Headphones
- Focal Utopia – 9,82%
- Meze Audio ELITE – 6,99%
- Hifiman Susvara – 6,32%
Almost no changes here and the Top 3 has only lightly changed. The number 1 still is the Focal Utopia but now with 9,82% of the votes, increasing its lead from 6,91%. The second spot goes to the Meze Audio ELITE with 6,99% of the votes, where it had 6,67% before. The Sennheiser HD800 is no longer in the top 3, and it lost its spot to the Hifiman Susvara, which now has 6,32% of the votes.
Universal IEMs
- Sennheiser IE900 – 10,11%
- FiiO FD3 – 8,97%
- ThieAudio Monarch MKii – 4,84%
There is a big change here for the number 2 position. The top position still is for the Sennheiser IE 900, it now has 10,11% of the votes where it last time had 10,83%. Its lead slightly increased. Second spot now is for the newcomer, the FiiO FD3. It has 8,97% pushing down the Monarch mkii to the 3rd place with with 4,84% of the votes. It before had 4,84%. The Sennheiser IE 600 now is in 4th position, what an entry for FiiO.
Custom IEMs
- 64 Audio A12T – 17,86%
- 64 Audio A18T – 13,11%
- JH Audio Sharona – 13,10%
There are no changes here in the top 3 this time round. The number one, still is the 64 Audio A12t with 17,86% of the votes, coming from 17,33%. Second spot is for the the 64 Audio A18t with 13,11%, where it last time had 14,68% (so slightly dropping). The third place still is for the JH Audio Sharona with 13,10% of the votes, coming from 14,67%. These 2 can change places any time. Number 4 – The Vision Ears Elysium – only has 7,14% of the votes, so it will be difficult to change the top 3.
TWS IEM
- Apple Airpods Pro 2 – 26,95%
- Sony WF-1000XM4 – 14,37%
- Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 – 8,38%
We still have the Apple Airpods Pro 2 in first position. With 26,95% it stays on top but it before had 29,10%. It’s still a very comfortable lead. The Sony WF-1000XM4 is still in the second spot and its vote count has increased from 13,43% to 14,37%. The 3rd position still is for the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3, with 8,38% (coming from 8,96%). Last year the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro won this category but it’s nowhere to be seen now.
Portable Players/DAPs
- Cayin Audio N8ii – 12,86%
- AK SP3000 – 12,14%
- Fiio M17 – 9,47%
Last year we had the Fiio M17 winning this category, with the SP2000T and the SP2000 in second and third place. In this update, the AK SP3000 lost its first spot and it now is in second place with 12,14% of the votes, coming from 12,80%. The new number one is the Cayin N8ii, which was in the 3rd spot last time. Its vote count increased from 7,61% to 12,86%. What a jump! The 3rd place now is for the Fiio M17 with 9,47%, coming from the second spot with 11,76%.
DAC/AMP Combo
- Chord Electronics Mojo 2 – 13,61%
- Chord Electronics Hugo TT2 – 9,16%
- RME ADI-2 DAC FS – 6,54%
The Chord Electronics Mojo 2 is in the lead with 13,61% of the votes (before it had 13,24%) and the Hugo TT2 is in second place with 9,16%. (before it had 11,50%). Chord Electronics is still doing very well here with the top 2 positions. The third position still is for the RME ADI-2 DAC FS. It has 6,54% of the votes (before at 5,92%);
