Part 2: TOTL (Top Of The Line) Cable for Audez’e/Hifiman
A. Effect Audio Thor Silver OCC (8 wire braid – 1.4m)
The Effect Audio Silver cable uses cryo treated, pure UPOCC silver.
Neutrik 1/4″ straight jack
Look & Feel And Presentation
I love the look of this silver cable. It has a transparent white-ish look to it and with the 8 braid it looks a lot like the 8 braid copper cable from Forza (structure wise). The braid on the Forza cables do is a bit tighter than the braid on the Effect cable. Like the other Effect cables it came in the same plastic bag.
This 8 braid cable is a bit heavier than the other Effect Audio cables but it is very light and it doesn’t bother you one bit when using it. The 1.4m long cable has no splitter and measures 23cm from the split to the connectors. The cable is gorgeous (and sounds splendid, more on that in a bit) but for this price a better presentation or nice splitter would have been appreciated.
Again, there is nothing to complain about. The quality of the heat shrink still is very good and the Audez’e connectors used are as the same ones as before. The full size Neutrik plug however is far more appreciated that the 3.5mm Oyaide. The braid is very well done and while it is a lot tighter than the 4 braid, it isn’t as tight as the Forza cable as I just said.
Customization & Options
You can choose the Connector (we chose Audez’e), Termination Type and Braiding (4 or 8)
The 8 braid version we have with the 1/4 Neutrik and Audez’e termination costs a more impressive $449.99 or 330€. That is quite the difference with the standard copper/silver cable.
LCD-2 and HE-500: Compared to the stock cables you get improved clarity with a wider sound stage and heaps of detail. The copper/silver cable did that too but the pure silver cable takes this a step further. Bass impact is even bigger and the treble is nicely detailed, extended and sparkling. The big difference with this silver cable for me is in the mids. It has more body than with the silver/copper version with great clarity and it is more musical. There’s a little less focus on the voices than with the silver/copper cable but it’s easier to listen to. I absolutely love the sound of this silver cable with both the LCD-2 and the HE-500. If I really had to choose one I would most likely pair it with the HE-500.
The silver Effect cable sounds and looks gorgeous. To me it’s a better cable than the copper/silver one but its price tag is higher as well. Quality wise: sound and build quality, it is an excellent cable where clarity and detail are its strongest points.
