Sonarworks might just be the coolest discovery at the Berlin show. Long time HFN reader Rudolfs is now working for Sonarworks, and they have developed software that makes your headphones sound extremely good.
You have to hear it to believe it but they actually made that Marshall headphone you saw earlier in the report, sound like an audiophile grade headphone. The result with the HD800 was less impressive, simply because it already is a great headphone.
What Sonarworks basically does is measure headphones and then they create specific settings for that type of headphone. You can even finetune the level of bass or modify the sound based on your age, it was really impressive. They also made me listen to a Beats headphone, and while it sounded remarkably better, it still was pretty awful. You can also send in your own headphone and they will measure your specific unit and set the software for that exact headphone. (at a cost)
I expected this software to cost hundreds of Euri/Dollars but it’s going for only €79!! Anyway, check these guys out and try the free demo for yourself. You’ll be impressed, I promise.
For some reason the review of this excellent electrostat hasn’t happened yet. Nathan, are you keeping it just for yourself?
Astell&Kern was most present at the different booths but the excellent Sony NW-WMZ1 did show up at Sennheiser and Effect Audio. Sony just released a new firmware fr the 1Z and 1A, so don’t forget to update your player.
As popular as always.
Many people go crazy over their gear and I can fully see why
And how about this Phonitor Mini?
An audio show in Germany without STAX? Impossible!
The Stax brand is incredibly popular with the German audiophiles and that shows
It just might have been the biggest booth at the show in fact. Gear everywhere
Pretty headphones too
Or how about the Mini Stax?
With a mini amp
If you don’t like mini, there’s always this
Tim de Paravicini
I can hear you say: “Tim who?”. Right, you might want to google him. The amp sounded pretty good but at the same time it didn’t blow me away at the show.
One of the only brands I don’t have in my CIEM collection yet
Must make some work of that because they make great sounding monitors
Nathan is a big fan of the brand. Yes, there are many people that do love Ultrasone
Most attention went to the Ultrasone Edition 15 which Nathan showed in his Picture Sunday article last week
