Sennheiser & Sonova partnership + New Product on May 11th!

In this article we share the news and tease about an exciting new upcoming product. A Sennheiser Product Launch!

Disclaimer: The Sennheiser X was sent to us by Sennheiser directly. Sennheiser is not related to Headfonia in any way.

Sennheiser

Everyone who is into headphones surely has heard of the German Sennheiser. Sennheiser has been active for 75 years and they recently celebrated that with a special Anniversary Edition of their modern classic headphone, the HD 800 S. Check it out here.

Sennheiser is one of the most respected companies in audio and in the past years, Sennheiser has positively surprised us with a lot of top quality products such as the HD 800 (S), the HD 820, the HD 660 S, the HD 560 S and several other HD 5-series headphones. Sennheiser has also been active on the TWS market and the Momentum True Wireless 2 scores pretty well there. We’ve of course featured and reviewed many Sennheiser products here on HFN.

Recently Sennheiser announced they were going to look for a partner for all of their personal audio business, but after that it went quiet. Well, to be honest, they did release the awesome IE 300 and they did announce a special version of the HD800S for DROP, which will be released later this year. But that was it really. Today Sennheiser is announcing their partnership with the Suisse Sonova!

Sennheiser and the Sonova Holding AG with headquarters in Stäfa, Switzerland, today announced their future cooperation under the Sennheiser brand. The global provider of medical hearing solutions will fully take over Sennheiser’s Consumer Electronics business. Subject to regulatory approval, the plan is to complete the transfer of the business to Sonova by the end of 2021.

Consumer Electronics products from Sennheiser stand for the best sound and a unique audio experience. With the takeover of the Sennheiser Consumer business, Sonova is adding headphones and soundbars to its hearing care portfolio, which includes hearing aids and cochlear implants, among other hearing solutions. Sonova will leverage the complementary competencies of both companies to strengthen and further expand its business areas in the future. Sennheiser’s many years of expertise as one of the world’s leading companies in the audio industry and the resulting reputation and appeal of the brand are an excellent complement to Sonova’s extensive technological and audiological expertise in the field of medical hearing solutions. A permanent cooperation is planned under the joint Sennheiser brand umbrella in order to continue offering Sennheiser customers first-class audio solutions in the future. A license agreement for future use of the Sennheiser brand has been made.

I guess many of us – because of that huge business decision –  didn’t expect them to come up with a brand new “Audiophile” focused unit at this time, but hey, they did! And it’s actually a very nice one, I didn’t see coming now. I’ve been trying to find any info about it on Google but nothing is to be found for now, it’s a well-hidden secret. Kudos to Senn for that.

Product X

The official launch of the new X is foreseen next week on May 11th (so in a few days). We’ve received the unit upfront however to cover it for the product launch. Sorry, but for the moment I can only share that Sennheiser is aiming it at the audiophile crowd. I think a couple of samples were sent out all over the world (Head-Fi for the USA in example), so if all goes well you should be able to see some X reviews next week already. But read ours first of course 😉

If you didn’t feel like reading the above part, you probably just clicked the video or went there directly from our YouTube channel

(yup, I need more sleep)

Soooo…

What do you think the new product is? Or what are you hoping it will be?

Let us know in the comments! If we get enough feedback we’ll even do a live “reveal” with a Facebook or Youtube live Feed on May 11th. And once the X is launched, we’ll have something else coming up with Sennheiser as well.

So see you on May 11th! Now let’s head off to the comments section below.

Maybe an HD680, which improves on the HD660, and finally presents us with a true successor to the incredible HD650.

I was hoping for a scaled back HE1 that ordinary folks could buy, but realistically I think it will be an official version of the Drop HD8XX.

Looking forward to see a new driver, something different IE800, HD600 or HD800 series. We’ve seen too many variations of those drivers, without anything new.

I just checked the both Sonova and Senneheiser US home pages. Perhaps I checked too late because I am not seeing any new product annoucement. There was IE900 lauch recently, but I don’t think it had anything to do with the new partnership.
