In this article we give you another update on the status of the 2023 Reader voted best gear polls.
Almost 10 months have passed since we launched the 2023 Reader Voted Best Gear polls. For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, check out the page below where we announce and explain the Reader Awards. Anyway, it’s time for another update. Let’s find out what you so far in 2023 find to be the Best / Your favourite Gear on the market!
The categories this year are the same as last year and they are the following:

The Status on October 29 is the following:
Headphones
- Sennheiser HD 800 S – 12.05%
- Focal Utopia – 8.23%
- Hifiman Susvara – 7.33%
Last time we had a big change in our top 3, but this time the podium stays unchanged. The Sennheiser HD800S is still in the lead with 12.05% of the votes, it came from 10.81%. The second spot is for the Focal Utopia and it has 8.23% of the votes, coming from 8.72%. The third spot is still taken by the Hifiman Susvara, now with 7.33% (before 6.51%0. Is this the final top 3?
Universal IEMs
- Unique Melody MEST II – 8.95%
- Sennheiser IE900 – 8.15%
- Empire Ears Odin – 5.32%
The Unique Melody MEST II is still in the lead with 8.95% of the votes. Its lead decreased from 9.22%. The second position is for the Sennheiser IE 900 with 8.15%, coming from 8.33%. The last place last time round was for the FiiO FD3 with 6.37% of the votes, but it has been passed by the Empire Ears Odin with 5.32% of the counts. The FiiO FD3 is now 4th with 4.24%.
Custom IEMs
- 64 Audio A12T – 16.13%
- 64 Audio A18T – 11.29%
- JH Audio Sharona – 10.48%
There are almost no changes here in the top 3 and 64Audio is still killing it. The number one, still is the 64 Audio A12t with 16.13%, a small decrease from the previous update. Second spot now is for the 64 Audio A18t with 11.29%. It jumped over the JH Audio Sharona, which is now third with 10.48%.
TWS IEM
- Apple Airpods Pro 2 – 23.57%
- Sony WF-1000XM4 – 12.55%
- Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 – 7.98%
There’s absolutely no change here on the podium. We still have the Apple Airpods Pro 2 in first position. With 23.57% of the votes, it did lose slightly compared to last time but they’re still comfortably in the lead. The Sony WF-1000XM4 is still in the second spot but its vote count has decreased from 13.84% to 12.55%. The 3rd position is for the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3, with 7.98% (coming from 8.04%). Last year the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro won this category but it’s nowhere to be seen now.
Portable Players/DAPs
- Astell&Kern SR35 – 14.27%
- AK SP3000 – 9.92%
- Cayin Audio N8ii – 7.88%
Last year we had the Fiio M17 winning this category, but it is only in 5th position now with 7.47% of the counts. In this update, the there are no huge changes. First is the Astell&Kern SR35, and it has increased its lead and now has 14.27% of the votes, coming from 13.23%. The AK SP3000 still is second with 9.92%, coming from 10.89%. The Cayin N8ii completes the podium with first with 7.88% of the votes. The Dethonray DTR1+ is coming close in fourth with 7.61%. The FiiO M17 as said is in fifth place with 7.47%
DAC/AMP Combo
- Chord Electronics Hugo TT2 – 15.66%
- Chord Electronics Mojo 2 – 11.11%
- EarMen Colibri – 8.17%
Chord Electronics stays well presented in the top 3. The Chord TT2 is in the first spot with 15.66% of the votes. The Mojo 2 is in second place with 11.11%. Third position still is for the Colibri and it has 8.17% of the votes. The RME still follows as fifth with 8.17% of the counts.
