Sennheiser Accentum Wireless Review

Specifications

37mm driver + new DSP

If the Sennheiser Accentum Wireless is a shoe-horned version of the Momentum, that’s also the case for its embedded driver. As they did on the IE200/IE600/IE900, the brand designed a relatively small diaphragm (37mm) for faster transients, quicker lows and a simpler integration with their new DSP.

Upstream, you get the scale 5.2 Bluetooth chip, which should give enhanced performances, with a compatible source. If not including the all-new Apt-X adaptive protocol, the Accentum still comes with full-support of Apt-X and Apt-X HD, in addition to the usual SBC and mSBC. Regarding the numbers, the new Sennheiser strictly follows the one established by its bigger brother. Distortion is rated just below the 0.3% markup, and sensitivity maxes out at a conservative 106dB. Last but not least, and to my own surprise, the Accentum comes with a bigger battery than the Momentum 4, adding 100mAh to the set, for a total amount of 800mAh.

Finally, the brands announced that phone calls are now clearer, thanks to various updates and a new set of Beamforming microphones – something that I can confirm, even if the sound of my voice remained a bit too metallic for some of my contacts.

Additional accessories

There is just one thing you can do to improve your experience with the Sennheiser Accentum Wireless: an Apt-X source. The device is agnostic, but you’d preferably use an iPhone or an Android phone, so you can install the Smart Control app.

Sure, you can plug your own DAP by the wired connection, as Sennheiser still offers this option for those who prefer the good old cable solution.

Sensitivity / Hiss

The Accentum Wireless isn’t hard to drive: the amplifier and DSD are directly built-in, so all you have to do is connect your phone, and click play. There is no hiss whatsoever, whether you use “transparency mode”, “noise-canceling” or even “pure” mode.
