In this article we give you a third update on the status of the 2023 Reader voted best gear polls.
Almost 5 full months have passed since we launched the 2023 Reader Voted Best Gear polls. For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, check out the page below where we announce and explain the Reader Awards. Anyway, it’s time for another update. Let’s find out what you so far in 2023 find to be the Best / Your favourite Gear on the market!
The categories this year are the same as last year and they are the following:

The Status on May 14 is the following:
Headphones
- Focal Utopia – 6,91%
- Meze Audio ELITE – 6,67%
- Sennheiser HD800 – 6,42%
Big changes here and the Top 3 has completely changed. The Hifiman Susvara and Sony MDR-Z1R are now in 4th and 5th place only. The new number 1 is the Focal Utopia with 6,91%. Surprising to see it in here, but ok. The second spot goes to the Meze Audio ELITE with 6,67% of the votes. The Sennheiser HD800 is the only headphone that kept its place in the top 3 and it now has 6,42% of the votes coming from 7,33%.
Universal IEMs
- Sennheiser IE900 – 10,83%
- ThieAudio Monarch MKii – 5,42\3%
- Sennheiser IE 600 – 5%
There are small changes here and the number 2 and 3 switch positions. The top position still is for the Sennheiser IE 900, it now has 10,83% of the votes where it last time had 14,29%. Its lead is decreasing. Second spot now is for the Monarch mkii with 5,43%. It jumped to the second spot and it before had 4,57% of the votes. The third spot now is for the Sennheiser IE 600. It has 5% of the votes, coming from 9,36% earlier.
Custom IEMs
- 64 Audio A12T – 17,33%
- 64 Audio A18T – 14,68%
- JH Audio Sharona – 14,67%
There are no changes here in the top 3 this time round. The number one, still is the 64 Audio A12t with 17,33% of the votes. Second spot is for the the 64 Audio A18t with 14,68% of the votes (coming from 15,69%). The third place still is for the JH Audio Sharona with 14,67% of the votes. These 2 can change places any time. Number 4 – The Vision Ears Elysium – only has 8% of the votes, so it will be difficult to change the top 3.
TWS IEM
- Apple Airpods Pro 2 – 29,10%
- Sony WF-1000XM4 – 13,43%
- Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 – 8,96%
We still have the Apple Airpods Pro 2 in first position. With 29,10% its lead dropped from 32,61% but it’s still very comfortably in the lead. The Sony WF-1000XM4 is still in the second spot and its vote count has decreased from 16,30% to 13,43%. The 3rd position still is for the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3, with 8,96% (coming from 10,87%). Last year the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro won this category but it’s nowhere to be seen now.
Portable Players/DAPs
- AK SP3000 – 12,80%
- Fiio M17 – 11,76%
- Cayin Audio N8ii – 7,61%
Last year we had the Fiio M17 winning this category, with the SP2000T and the SP2000 in second and third place. Right now, the AK SP3000 is strengthening its lead with 12,80 %, coming from 11,98%. The FiiO M17 is still in second place and its count increased slightly from 11,38% of the votes, to 11,76%. The awesome iBasso DX320 lost its third position to the Cayin N8ii, which now has 7,61% of the votes
DAC/AMP Combo
- Chord Electronics Mojo 2 – 13,24%
- Chord Electronics Hugo TT2 – 11,50%
- RME ADI-2 DAC FS – 5,92%
The Chord Electronics Mojo 2 is in the lead with 13,24% of the votes (before it had 12,92%) and the Hugo TT2 is in second place with 11,50%. (before it had 12,44%). Chord Electronics is still doing very well here with the top 2 positions. The third position no longer is for the Dethonray Pegasus SG1. It now is for the RME ADI-2 DAC FS. It has 5,92% of the votes but it is followed closely by the Pegasus SG1, which now has 5,91% .
